iPad debuted in 2012 with Retina Display screen ultra-high resolution without a tablet can offer. We are very pleased and expectant it long, but we do not know is that cramming more than 3 million pixels on a display panel 9 “7 is as difficult as any with Apple as well as the production partner for panel iPad 2012. NPD DisplaySearch recently discussed this Retina screen as well as technological breakthroughs that Apple applications.

This unit in 2012 that the iPad screen 2048 x 1536 pixels is a major breakthrough in technology. That was wonderful, it’s even bigger than most of the HDTV resolution on the market today. The increase in the number of pixels is inversely proportional to the ratio of aperture and an inevitable result is the screen brightness will be reduced. To solve this problem, Apple has applied Super High Aperture technology (ultra high aperture) increases the backlight brightness for the screen. Not only that, iPad for 2012 also has the LED backlight doubled in comparison with 36 balls on the iPad 2. NPD also said that iPad 2012 DisplaySearch heavy and slightly thicker due to larger battery capacity to meet the power consumption of the number of LEDs of this doubled.

Samsung, LG and Sharp are three partners responsible for producing new iPad screen panel. All three are big names in the manufacturing sector, but they display difficulty with this 2012 screen iPad, NPD DisplaySearch said. Samsung is the main production partner while LG admit they have some problem and said production will start soon. However, Sharp’s situation more serious. NPD DisplaySearch believes that Sharp encounter problems much larger than the LG.

On quantity as well as market demand, Apple said that they can better meet customer needs. NPD DisplaySearch predicts that give iPad Q3 is 13.6 million while Q4 is 18.7 million. new iPad will be sold from 16/3, including Hong Kong and Singapore. Hopefully, enough quantity and nobody will have to wait too long for the tablet screen is great.

If you’re hoping to get your hands on Apple’s new iPad on launch day but haven’t already ordered, an Apple Store line may be in your future. Cupertino’s US online store is nowlisting a March 19th ship date for all 9 variants of the new Retina Display-equipped slate, a full three days after the device’s release. It’s an almost expected occurrence at this point, with Apple having run into the same issue with the release of previous iOS devices in recent years. While no specific details have been given on in-store availability or customer limits as of yet, Apple’s brick-and-mortar locations have traditionally had stock to sell on a first-come, first-serve basis — but you may want to watch out for any spontaneous Galaxy Note-inspired musical numbers.

Reports from around the web suggest some HTC Sensation users in Europe have started getting their serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. While we don’t see the pattern HTC is using to rollout the new firmware, it is clear that at first only folks with unlocked devices are getting Android 4.0.3.

The Taiwanese company is strangely quiet (for such a big news), so we keep listening to other people and their reactions. As far as we’ve understood, alongside Ice Cream Sandwich, HTC is also pushing updated version (3.6) of its Sense UI.

If you’re one of the lucky few affected with this, make sure to tell us that in the comments below. Also spare no details describing all the new stuff you got with the new firmware…

Needless to say, as soon as we hear something new on this, you’ll be the first to know. Stay tuned in the meantime, k?

Barclays Capital’s Anthony DiClemente has an interesting theory about Siri and its effect on Google’s mobile search revenue. DiClemente points out that iOS grabs a whopping 60 percent of mobile traffic share according to Comscore’s December data. When you look at Google’s mobile search statistics, the bulk of the traffic is likely from customers using iOS devices to search using Google.

As Siri takes a bigger role in iOS, customers will increasingly use voice-assisted search instead of mobile search. Siri doesn’t use just Google for search; it can pull information from Bing, Wolfram Alpha and other mobile services. This shift from Google search to Siri search could have an impact on Google says DiClemente . Google estimates that mobile is about 20% of all paid search items and iOS is likely the biggest contributor. Any loss of customers to Siri could, in the long run, hurt Google claims DiClemente.

Though DiClemente’s premise is sound and Siri could redirect users away from Google search, the revenue loss for Google may be small compared to the search revenue it gets from the desktop. Macquarie analyst Ben Schachter said in a recent research note that Google generates $1.3 billion from mobile search, but only gets $335 million after it pays out traffic acquisition costs. The bulk of these traffic acquisition costs are actually being paid to Apple since iOS is the dominant mobile platform. In the end, Google may lose some traffic and revenue to Siri, but it might not be as harmful as DiClemente estimates.

After announcing his company’s new Power-Grid app for iOS earlier this week, Roccat CEO Rene Korte spent some time with us showing off its capabilities. Power-Grid will offer extended gaming controls alongside your traditional keyboard and mouse setup. The free app consists of three pre-installed control grids: Incoming Center, Stats Control, and Sound Control. The Incoming Center pulls in voice and text from TeamSpeak, Skype, Twitter, and more, and displays all the text from the services in a scrolling feed. It’s pretty flexible, and you’re free to remove anything from the app on the fly. The Stats Control brings up your system information including CPU stats, RAM usage, network traffic, and hard drive space. The final pre-installed grid is Sound Control, which mirrors Windows audio mixer giving you full control over the volume of individual apps on your PC, as well as providing a basic media player remote. While the three options are pretty interesting by themselves, the feature most likely to attract attention however is the fourth: user-customizable grids.

The grids can be built using free software on your PC and are completely versatile. On display were timers, macros (specifically for Skyrim in this case), and app and web shortcuts, but the possibilities are virtually endless. While the first custom grid is free, additional grids will cost 99 cents (although you will be able to change your free grid as much as you like without paying). The app connects to your PC via Wi-Fi and response was completely lag free to the naked eye. This really looks to be a great expansion option for PC gamers on a budget. The app is going into public beta in the next few weeks and should be available at some point in the second half of the year alongside an Android version. Roccat is open to the idea of developing an app for Windows Phone, but only if Microsoft manages to achieve “sufficient market penetration.”

Also on display was a prototype of Roccat’s upcoming Project Apuri dock, which will launch at around €30 ($40) for both iPhone and Android phones towards the end of the year. While it’s only a simple charging dock with a blue light underneath it felt extremely well put together, and holds the phone at a good angle for use with the Power-Grid app. When asked why the dock will take so long to be released, Korte explained that he’s expecting the next iPhone to be announced in September. He would like to be sure there aren’t any major form-factor or dock connector changes before going ahead with mass production. Roccat is also planning to release a mechanical keyboard called Project Phobo which will have a pop-out num pad that can be replaced with the phone of your choice. Unfortunately there weren’t any prototypes available for us to take a look at, but we’ll bring you plenty of coverage before it launches early next year for around $130.

Apple unveiled the long-awaited iPhoto app. It’s available for $4.99 in the App Store for iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad starting today.

iPhoto lets you edit your apps using a number of different tools and functions just like iPhoto for Mac. Photos are organized on shelves sorted by albums, faces, places, or the new journals feature. Tapping on one allows you to make advanced edits for highlights, shadows, white balance, etc. using multitouch gestures. The photos can be up to 19 megapixels in size, and the bigger the photo, the more easily you’ll be able to fine-tune every last detail.

There’s a few effects, too, but nothing major. Think greyscale, vintage, and some others. After you’re done editing, you can share photos to iCloud, Flickr, Twitter, and yes, even Facebook — Apple’s arch nemesis.

We’re glad Apple is bringing iPhoto to the iOS, since it was the last app in the iLife suite and arguably the most popular of the three on the Mac. With that, iLife for iOS is complete!

Apple also updated all the iWork apps to be retina display ready for the (no-name) iPad 3. GarageBand and iMovie got minor updates too with some new features like Jam Session with up to three friends in the former and Theater view in the latter.

Apple just released iOS 5.1 as a free software update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. It includes some small new features and bug fixes, but nothing major.

It was unveiled today very briefly at the iPad 3 event, but Apple didn’t talk about much besides the fact that it included support for Siri in Japan. That’s nice, but pretty lame if you aren’t Japanese. Now we have a few more details.

The big one is that photos can be deleted from Photo Stream! This simple feature, that should have been added from the very start, lets you reverse any photo that was automatically uploaded to the stream, so that photo you regrettably took last night doesn’t end up on all of your devices everywhere you go.

Next on the list of importance are three camera features. The first was previously rumored, and it’s that the camera icon remains visible on the lock screen right next to slide-to-unlock function for easy access to the camera. Previously you had to double-tap the home button to get to it. The other camera-related additions here are a redesigned Camera app on the iPad and face detection.

Basically, iOS 5.1 is filled with enhancements rather than full-blown new changes. Aside from the aforementioned improvements, there’s also Genius Mixes for iTunes Match subscribers, improved audio in iTunes movies and TV shows, bug fixes for battery life, podcast controls on iPad, and a couple of other things.

If you have iOS 5 already, you can get the update wirelessly by navigating to your Settings. If not, tether up to iTunes and get downloading!

Apple just announced the “new iPad,” the third generation of its line of tablets. The new, simpler name belies an power set of features, including a Retina Display, LTE, and a A5X processor with quad-core graphics capabilities. We’ve rounded up the big stories and the important details right here.

1. New iPad announced: LTE, Retina Display, A5X processor with quad-core graphics, available March 16th for $499

Apple just announced the new iPad, the latest in its popular line of tablets. As expected, it has a Retina Display, with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. That’s good for a pixel density of 264ppi, which means you can’t distinguish individual pixels when held at 10 inches — the standard Apple uses for the Retina moniker. Existing apps will automatically take advantage of the higher resolution, but Apple’s optimized all of its stock apps and is obviously encouraging developers to do the same.

In addition to the new display, the new iPad also features an A5X processor with a new quad-core graphics processor, which Apple claims is four times as fast as the Tegra 3. There’s also a new iSight camera, which is the same as the camera built into the iPhone 4S: auto-exposure, auto-focus, 5 megapixel backside-illuminated sensor with 1080p stabilized video. That’s a huge upgrade from the iPad 2, and a massive jump over competitive tablets, which all have terrible cameras. The front camera for FaceTime remains at VGA. There’s also a new microphone icon on the keyboard for voice dictation, which works in several languages.

Apple’s also added 4G LTE and 42Mbps HSPA+ mobile networking, with models for AT&T, Verizon, Rogers, Telus, and Bell. The Verizon and AT&T LTE models will be separate, but will both support 3G around the world. The iPad also now supports hotspot functionality, per your carrier’s rules.

Battery life is pegged at 10 hours, which is the same as the iPad 2, with 9 hours on 4G. The only downside? At 9.4mm thick and 1.4 pounds, the new iPad is a little bit heavier and thicker than the iPad 2, which measured 8.8mm thick and 1.35 pounds.

The new iPad starts at $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model and $629 for the 16GB 4G model, with 32GB and 64GB sizes commanding an extra $100 and $200 each. It’ll be in stores on March 16th, but pre-orders start today in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Japan — and it’ll hit 100 more countries on March 23.

2. Apple announces the A5X: a system-on-chip with quad-core graphics

Traditionally, Apple has been content to stay a step behind the latest processor technology, and reap the power efficiency benefits, and that’s just what we heard it would do again… but today, right now on stage, the Cupertino computer company unveiled a mobile chip with quad core graphics, not a quad-core CPU. This is the Apple A5X.

The A5, if you’ll recall, had a integrated PowerVR SGX543MP2, a dual-core graphics solution that did quite nicely in games, but recently the PlayStation Vita used the quad-core version of the same, the SGX543MP4+. We’ve got a hunch that’s what you’ll find inside the A5X as well. It’s also worth noting that Samsung builds quad-core ARM Mali graphics into some of its existing chips, like the one in the Galaxy S II. Also, core count alone isn’t an indication of performance, because the Nvidia Tegra 3 has 12 graphics cores, and Apple claims the A5X has four times the performance of the Tegra 3… whatever that might mean. (The company didn’t say what benchmarks it tested with.) Apple says the new graphics abilities will be responsible for pushing pixels to that new 2048 x 1536 resolution Retina Display, and also handling duties like stabilization for the new iPad’s 1080p camera.

What happened to the A6 that was leaked late last month? Tim Cook didn’t say, but our best guess is that the A5X is an intermediate step and perhaps it will appear in another, less power efficient product. We’ll let you know what we hear.

3. New iPad hands-on, detailed pictures, video, and more!

We’ve just had our first in-person experience with Apple’s latest and greatest slate… and it feels good. It goes without saying that the screen on the device is absolutely stunning — while we haven’t had a chance to look through every possible app on the new iPad, the retooled stock applications and icons really do pop on the Retina Display. Just as when we first saw the iPhone 4 display, the New iPad’s 2048 x 1536 screen is stunning to behold. Simply put, there’s no other product like it on the market.

When looking at webpages or books, text just jumps off the screen. It’s almost a bit surreal how clear it is. Games look great, though most titles haven’t been tweaked for the new resolution. What’s most impressive is that the hardware driving the display doesn’t hesitate at all. We didn’t see any lag or weirdness when zipping around in apps.

Performance seemed snappy (though we had few complaints about performance on its predecessor). It’s probably going to take some time (and serious gaming) to see what the new A5X is capable of. It’s worth noting that while Apple touted a quad-core GPU, the CPU of the SoC is still dual-core. Still, iPhoto and other new apps were incredible zippy, even at that super high resolution, and the new Infinity Blade Dungeons title that Epic Games showed off on stage looked nearly console-quality.

Playing with iPhoto and the new update for GarageBand was somewhat interesting. It feels like Apple is bringing more of its high-end features to the iPad. When we spoke to Phil Schiller at the event, he wouldn’t say whether or not pro apps like Aperture would make their way to the platform, but he did have a slight grin that made us think the company was at least exploring the options. He also told us that old accessories like iPad 2 docks and Smart Covers would be compatible with the new devices — which is nice if you’re upgrading.

Physically, the device feels nearly the same in hand as the previous model. Though it does have a slight bump in thickness, the difference is nearly unnoticeable. Since the design hasn’t dramatically changed, there’s not much to note in the casing department, and though there are improved cameras present, the general seating and size of the sensors seems unchanged.

We didn’t have a huge opportunity to test with LTE, but as expected, when we tested with the new iPad, we saw big download speeds, some in the 14 Mbps or 15 Mbps range. Pretty good compared with what we’re used to on an iPad 2 with 3G.

Believe it or not, the new 5 megapixel camera on the back of the device seemed reasonably capable of taking decent photos. It’s still pretty hard to imagine using this as a real camera due to its awkward size, but it’s clear that Apple put some of its know-how from the iPhone 4S’s shooter into the new iPad sensor.

In all, it’s a strong showing from the current (and frankly undisputed) market leader in tablets. Did Apple just make the best tablet even better? Yeah, it does kind of look that way.

Stephen Elop, the CEO of Nokia, got under a lot of people’s skin when he said that the Lumia 800 was the “first real Windows Phone”. Samsung, HTC, LG, they were making and selling Windows Phones for a full year before Nokia brought their device to the table. Shit talking aside, Nokia prides themselves on being an international player, that there are more people in more countries using Nokia devices than anyone else currently making mobile phones. True as that might be, HTC just snagged themselves the title of being the first company to sell Windows Phones in China. They’re taking the massive 4.7 inch Titan to the People’s Republic and are rebraning it as the “Triumph”. The folks at Engadget spoke to HTC and have confirmed that the Triumph will run Tango, the version of Windows Phone that adds a few new features to the platform, but also brings the total number of languages supported to well over 100.

he bigger question is obviously when will Nokia bring the Lumia to China? They said it would happen during the first haf of this year, and we know Nokia well enough to translate that PR laden window to “late June”. By then the Triumph would have been out on the market for close to four months, which is just about as long the Lumia 800 has been out and about in Europe and Asia.

And let’s not forget about the elephant in the room: Windows Phone 8. That OS is going to come out in roughly half a year, and anyone following the mobile industry knows that. Said people are telling friends and family to wait, especially since there’s strong evidence to suggest that today’s Windows Phones aren’t going to get updated to the next version of the platform. If it’s true, you can expect a lot of angry people to mumble some expletives on the internets in protest.

At CES this year we got to take a look at the mysterious Sony “Hybrid” concept PC behind glass and we thought that the convertible tablet looked like it held some promise. However, we were told that the tablet was just a prototype, “merely to show Sony’s design prowess.” According to Pocketnow, Sony might actually release the computer under the VAIO U moniker — a name that’s long belonged to the company’s ultra-mobile PC line.

The site has posted what appears to be a print advertisement for the convertible tablet, and it looks like the design has undergone some changes from the prototype we originally saw. The stylus holder has disappeared from the front of the keyboard, the bezel appears to be larger, and the entire system looks quite a bit chunkier. We still think the device would be a good fit for Windows 8, so we’d hope that if Sony is going to bring the tablet to market, it’d be sometime after the release of Microsoft’s new, touch-friendly desktop OS. See our gallery below from CES of the Sony Hybrid prototype.
